Make being good with money part of your identity and hone the skill

by Brianna Crane | October 15, 2026

The majority of this audience identities as being good with money—and that’s a really good thing.

  • Turns out, the beliefs you have about yourself are a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy.
  • If you tell yourself you’re not good with money, you won’t be, CPA and public speaker Nesha Pai tells Scoop.

Being good with money is part identity and part skill, and you can work at both, Nesha says.

  • No matter where you are in your money journey, here are some tactical tips from Nesha on how to level-up your finances.

Step one: Open a spreadsheet and write down every single monthly expense, from housing to botox to childcare.

Step two: Identify the absolute essentials on the list, with no judgement and full honesty.

  • If you’re feeling out of control with money, have credit card debt to pay off or don’t have a savings plan, this is where you might be able to create breathing room.
  • Do you need to rent a mansion or could you rent an apartment? Do you need a brand new car or could you drive something older and more modest?

Step three: You’ve made the budget, now it’s time to stick to it. If you don’t have discipline, you need an accountability partner, whether it’s a spouse, accountant, money coach, etc.

Step four: Keep tapping into an abundant mindset—rewrite your money story. Repeat “money will come to me, money will come to me.”
