The Edit Sale returns to Camp North End Sept. 23-26 and Oct. 1-3. And we had a chance to catch up with the founders—following them around the warehouse—as they prepare for their 10th year.
Background: Edit Sale, Charlotte’s signature designer consignment pop-up, started as a clothing swap between three close friends—Stephanie Bissell, Shelly Landau and Jennifer Shelton—in 2016. Now, hundreds of women line up twice a year to shop the most stylish closets in Charlotte.
It opened to the public in 2019—though still in Jennifer’s garage. Now, the sale is held in a giant warehouse each season, stuffed with 5,000-7,000 pieces of designer clothing and accessories.
The vision: It wasn’t meant to be a business, the girls tell Scoop. Stephanie and Shelly were “retired” from their previous careers and stayed home to raise their children. And Jennifer was teaching at Hilliard and hosting other pop-up experiences at her house.
- Turns out, Charlotte was craving the in-person, getting-ready-with-the-girls shopping experience the Edit girls curated.
The magic: The three founders, who ironically met working at Founders Hall in the 90s, never had a conversation about their specific roles in this accidental startup. It happened naturally—combining their love for fashion with the skills they sharpened in their early careers.
- Shelly runs communications, and previously worked retail and had her own children’s handpainted furniture line. Her hand-painted trays were sold in Neiman Marcus.
- Jennifer is the stylist and warehouse organization extraordinaire. She helped launch a jewelry store right out of college and nurtured the Shelton Vineyards retail experience.
- Stephanie works behind the scenes, optimizing things like their POS system; she worked at Price Waterhouse and ran the back office of an interior design firm.
- All three work together to infuse their keen sense of style and make sure the selection is truly unlike anything else.
How it works today: The girls have expanded their consignor network beyond their immediate friend group to 100+ stylish consignors—just enough to offer more size diversity, but not enough to dilute their standards.
- The Edit Sale girls and about a dozen of their friends spend weeks sorting, tagging and organizing the consigned pieces, and transforming a warehouse into Charlotte’s premier shopping pop-up.
- The sale typically runs two weekends each fall and spring.
This season: Expect thousands of clothing items and accessories from designers like Gucci, Ulla Johnson, Dries Van Noten, The Vampire’s Wife, TWP Clothing, The Row, Alemais and Lee Matthews.
- You’ll find everyday workhorse staples and one-of-a-kind special occasion pieces (often still with tags)—all deeply discounted.
- There are hundreds of items priced under $200, and most pieces are anywhere from 50-80% off retail.
Details: Edit Sale opens 10am Wednesday, Sept. 23 right next to HEX Coffee in Camp North End. The entrance will be on the back side, facing the food stalls.
