How Charlotte professionals are leveraging AI–or boycotting it

by Brianna Crane | September 24, 2026

Last week we asked if AI has improved your life in any way. The poll yielded some of our most thoughtful responses yet.

  • Not everyone is comfortable using AI, and those who do use it are trying to develop their own point of view around what kind of use is “worth it.”

Your replies:

“Yes. BUT I AM SCARED!”

“I’m in a love-hate relationship in my CFO level role. For many things, it’s a fantastic tool to make me more efficient (board decks, automated emails, quick P&L review). However, the AI slop is real. I complete analyses that are impossible to recreate week over week and are error prone. I also cant stand the Claude spreadsheets that are sent to me that are impossible to validate and trace to source.”

“I try to not use AI. I know so many people use it regularly and they seem to be losing their ability to do work on their own. With everything we are seeing and reports coming out about the dangers of AI I would rather something take me longer to do it myself and use my own brain than let AI do the work. There’s so much unknown about what it’s capable of, and the safety of it and with 0 regulations it should be concerning to everyone.”

“I use it at work quite a bit, its help me speed up manual tasks. Wish I had time to learn more of what it can do.”

“The guilt from the very questionable ethics of using it would negate any incremental benefit ”

“Initially, I was against AI for a few reasons (mostly environmental and the impact on cognitive functions), but then I realized that using AI for work left me with lots of time and brainpower for my real life. It’s like mental budgeting for the things that truly matter. ”

“For me, it helps eliminate some of the mental load and decision fatigue. As a woman working full time with 2 kids, I’ll take all the help I can get, especially if it’s free.”

“I am not a super user by any means but it’s saved me a lot of time in tasks that would have taken me 3-4 hrs and reduced it to 3-4 seconds. I still give everything a critical human eye but for some things it’s become my go-to. I do worry about the ethics and energy use but for the amount I use it, stopping reminds me of the push for everyone to use paper straws instead of pointing to the massive corporations using fossil fuels 24/7. ”

“It is so helpful responding to a quick email, or helping me format things! But I’m trying to use it less and rely on my critical thinking more. ”

“I got thrown into a role at work that I have NO CLUE how to do and my management is unsupportive, disorganized, and inconsistent at best, so I lean heavily on AI for input on projects that I really don’t know how to do.. copywriting, social content strategy, etc. Definitely looking for a new job, but in the meantime, co Pilot is my best friend. ”

“Not in major ways. But it knows better than I do what I’m searching for. You can ask it anything. Like the price of the car you bought in 1985. The number of days over 90 in charlotte in the 70s. And on and on”

Personally: I use Town which I would describe as an AI assistant.

  • It reminds me of all the promises I’ve made, turns deadlines into a checklist and updates all of my various project trackers. I don’t let it draft or send emails, but it can.
  • It has solved my biggest pain point as a solopreneur for about $50/mo.
