The majority of Charlotte parents are shelling out anywhere from $20K to $60K per year on childcare, per child, according to the latest Scoop poll.
Data show: While $21K-$30K was the most common response, a stunning 19% of Charlotte parents spend north of $50K a year on childcare for one child.
- Roughly 1 in 4 Charlotte parents spend under $15,000 a year, but some of those respondents identified as stay-at-home moms.
My research: My husband and I are thinking about having a kid in the next year-ish, so we hopped on a couple of years-long daycare waitlists. The average cost seems to be around $1,800 a month for full-time daycare anywhere between Dilworth and SouthPark.
- If we want to hire a nanny in any capacity, we are looking at $40K+ a year for full-time coverage.

- “In previous years we spent closer to $30k but in the last 18 months I have done a lot of work to get the cost down by cutting our nanny among other things. It’s not easy but it’s eased some financial stress for sure.”

Reality check: As kids get older, childcare costs go down but new expenses arise.
