Scoop Labs Report: Wellness is taking over interior design

by Brianna Crane | May 29, 2026

The latest home design trend of “invisible wellness” is something Charlotte designer Marie Cloud has been preaching for years.

Well-designed home gyms, saunas and cold plunges are here to stay but people are looking for wellness to be fully integrated into every aspect of their homes.

  • They want a home that really supports rest and recovery—which is just as important for overall wellbeing as getting a sweat in.

“Most clients aren’t asking for ‘wellness features’ by name,” Marie tells Scoop. “They’re telling me they want to feel calm when they walk in the door, or that their home doesn’t feel like theirs anymore. That’s where I start.”

  • They want the beautiful professional-grade fitness equipment and thoughtful recovery zones (think: large windows that open to an expertly landscaped view, wrapping the room in ethereal calm).

According to a recent Scoop Labs™ poll, 60% of readers have a home gym, and several people wrote in to tell me about their wellness amenities. Some of those include:

  • “Red light mat.”
  • “Art studio.”
  • “Free weights, strength bands, treadmill, elliptical trainer, Peloton, yoga space, and a drum set – which is pretty good exercise.”
  • “Pool and patio.”

This shift isn’t just among homeowners; Charlotte renters demand more, too.

A state-of-the-art gym used to set an apartment community apart,Amy Merrill, North Ravin VP of Marketing Operations & Integration, told me.

  • Now, that’s status quo.
  • Residents want saunas and other high-end wellness amenities that go far beyond a workout.

“What’s underneath all of it is the same thing,” Marie says. “They want a space that actually belongs to them. So whether it’s a dedicated room or just the way light moves through a living area, that intentionality is what I’m designing toward.”

  • From textile choices to how a space is organized, wellness shows up in the subtle details throughout the entire home.
  • At first glance you may not even notice, but all of these decisions add up to the energetic shift people crave, and expect, from their spaces.
