Add These Touches for the Perfect Guest Room

As we head into Guest-ing and Host-ing season, we thought we’d take a look at what makes a comfortable, welcoming, and stylish guest bedroom. Bedside Manor in the Specialty Shops in SouthPark is our go-to for all things related to the bed and bedrooms, and they have everything you need to make up the perfect guest room, instock and on the floor in the store, as well as a wide array of options available with special order.

Start with a Pretty, Comfortable Bed

Of course. We like at least a headboard, to give the bed(s) some definition and point of place. Also, to prop up all our many decorative pillows and annoy our husbands. Inspiration abounds at Bedside Manor, with display beds showcasing all the latest styles in luxury linens, pillows, throws, lamps and more. The store has such a soothing vibe, you may be tempted to lie down for a little nap.

A comfortable mattress is key. You should spend the night in your own guest room occasionally, so you can see what works and what does not, starting with the mattress. If you want the best mattress in town, Bedside Manor carries the SFERRA Sonno Notte Mattress Collection, made to order by hand in the USA. If you just want to luxe up your current mattresses, add on a featherbed or cushiony mattress pad – you can choose down, down alternative, or wool.

And of course, the sheets are the main event. When choosing sheets and other bedding, you should always prioritize quality, and invest in the best you can afford. The staff at Bedside Manor will help you select the optimum quality for your budget, and can make practical recommendations from the many bedding brands they carry.

A Choice of Pillows

Yes, we all love decorative pillows, but please force yourself to start with the basic sleeping pillow. Down or Down Alternative. Soft, Medium, or Firm. Once you have made the bed with a variety of these for your guests to choose from, you can move on to the fun stuff!

Add Layers for Temp Sensitivities

No one does layering better than Bedside Manor. Comforters, blankets, duvets, coverlets, quilts, throws. Better to layer the bed with several and have your guests remove what they don’t need, than to chill them overnight.

Bedside Tables Well-Stocked with Helpful Items

Sleepmasks & earplugs. Consider an alarm clock; yes, we all have our phone, but an old school, analog alam clock is a lovely touch. And a small photo frame with the wifi info is very handy. Water carafe or bottle and glasses. Magazines and a selection of books. Notepads and pens. A flashlight and the TV Remote. A basket of snacks, healthy and not.

Make Sure They Can Plug In and Read Easily

A reading light for both guests ~ adjustable wattage blulbs are a plus. But also, make sure the outlets are readily accessible and there are chargers and cords supplied. If your outlets aren’t well-placed to reach the bedsides, make sure you create a charging station somewhere in the room.

A Luxury Bath

Spend a few minutes remembering what you love most about a luxe hotel stay and try to recreate a bit of that in your guest bath. Thick fluffy towels. Pretty scented soaps and products. Nice shampoo and conditioner, a hairdryer and shower cap (several if your bath has only a shower!). Extra toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouthwash. Bandaids and Advil. His and Hers robes are always nice to include, and Bedside Manor has a wonderful selection of pajamas.

A Spot to Work

If you have the space, an armchair with a reading lamp and throw offers your guest a spot to relax and get some quiet alone time.

And last but not least, a small desk and chair tucked in to the guest room is a thoughtful addition for your guests. Also, it helps corral their papers, computers, and more into one place that is not your kitchen counter 🙂
