Set in Rome in June 1800 during the Napoleonic wars in a time of great political unrest, the plot revolves around three main characters – the diva Floria Tosca, her lover Mario Cavaradossi and the corrupt Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia. Scarpia, who lusts after Tosca, uses his power and opportunity to capture Cavaradossi, and have Tosca for himself.
