Charlotte Area Pick Your Own Farms With Opening Dates

The sun is shining, and temps are warm which makes us want to head out for one of our favorite spring activities, U-picking produce.

If you’re wondering where to “pick your own” in and around Charlotte, you’ve come to the right place. We have the Scoop on where to go, what’s in season, and things to know before you visit sorted by driving distance from Charlotte for your convenience.

Before you head out, be sure to call and check on conditions. Weather and other factors can change hours of U-Pick farms. The March freeze impacted some farms and their plants, and quantities may be limited.

What’s in season: Strawberries are in season right now. Blackberries, sunflowers, and muscadines in season during summer months. Other produce available at the farm store.
Know before you go:  They provide the buckets, tips, and tricks when it comes to picking. Prices vary depending on fruit and quantity. No pets allowed.

Deer Run Farm

Know before you go: Since 1992, Deer Run Farm has been serving Midland, NC fresh wheat, wheat straw, and pick-your-own strawberries. Keep an eye out for their official opening date by checking their Facebook page.

Know before you go: Cups are provided for picking. Plastic grocery bags are provided to tote your berries home. Hours will be announced at the beginning of the season.

What’s in season: Strawberries
Know before you go: NEW this year is the opening of Wise Acre’s greenhouse, where they will sell organic strawberry plants, grafted-heirloom tomato plants, peppers, cucumbers, basil, cilantro, lavender, a few native flowers, and organic fertilizers. Greenhouse doors will open before U-pick season and will be open April 8, 9, 15 & 16 for plant/barn store sales ONLY during designated reservation times. Any visit to the farm must have a reservation that you can make online here.

Know before you go: Carrigan Farms is a 5th generation family-owned farm. The farm specializes in growing produce, educational school tours and field trips, weddings, swim parties, and other special events.

Know before you go: U-pick price is $4 per pound. They have buckets to pick the berries and bags to take them home in, but if you prefer to bring your own, feel free!

What’s in season: Strawberries
Know before you go: You do not need to make reservations to visit the farm this year. Due to freezing temperatures in early March, Hall Family Farm unfortunately lost 75% of its strawberries overnight. Expect a limited quantity of strawberries this April, with more blooms to come this spring and summer. Visit their Facebook page for updates.

Opening date: Market opening April 1 – strawberry season usually runs mid/late April, through May, and into early June, depending on the weather.
What’s in season: You-pick strawberries are in season.
Know before you go: Pick-Your-Own tickets must be purchased online prior to your visit. There are 3 options for Pick-Your-Own Experiences. These tickets gain you access to activities and the strawberry field. Tickets are required for ages 2+. Tickets do not include the cost of strawberries. You must purchase one of these ticket types to gain access to Pick-Your-Own Fields to Pick-Your-Own strawberries.
