It’s hard to describe to a newcomer what you’ll shop for at Charlotte’s super popular Paper Skyscraper on East Blvd. Is it a bookstore? Well, it has a great selection of the latest fiction & non-fiction, quality paper and award winners, cookbooks, and beautiful art, architecture, photography, travel & style “coffee table” books.
Is it a gift store? Indeed, it has a wide selection of unique and often quirky gifts for everyone on the list, from the impossible to buy for teenager or Mother-in-Law to the new baby and everyone in your family & friend circle. You will find it hard not to find something to gift at Paper Skyscraper.
The place for note cards and cards for all occasions, amazing wrapping paper & accessories, funny cards no matter what your sense of humor, and the best Holiday decor in town? Yes.
There’s a candle area, with tapers in every color and everything to go with. There’s a travel section, with just the right bags & eye masks, blankets, guides, maps & more. There’s a section of bar & kitchen wares to give or keep for yourself. A kids section, a games section, a pet section, a jewelry area, a clock wall, a cluster of great handbags, wallets and accessories.
A lot of “local love” items, made in or featuring the QC. And while it could seem like a jumble of so many things, it doesn’t. It seems like the bygone art of friendly, easy, in-person shopping for everything you need under one roof. A surprise around every corner and in every nook. Carefully curated, so you only get the right amount of lost in the experience.
As their website says, “For more than twenty-five years Paper Skyscraper has been hanging out in the historic Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte. We have grown from a small space to 5000 square feet of books, gifts and cards. We are the place where friends cross paths with friends, and where you proudly bring out-of-towners to show what Charlotte has to offer.” We never leave empty handed.
