LipoSculpture: In Office, Less Invasive Fat Removal That Does Double the Beauty Duty.

When I heard about LipoSculpture, the in-office fat removal that can then be used to plump other areas of your body, well, it sounded almost too good to be true. How many of us have said we wished we could just take the fat out of our hips or belly and put it someplace more attractive?

I soon realized that this technique and advancements in the treatment of unwanted fat are a reality, and once removed, your own fat can be used to add fullness in your face, breasts or buttocks.

Liposculpture vs. Liposuction

You’re probably familiar with Liposuction, the process of surgically removing unwanted fat. There’s a newer, more refined, less invasive version of this is called Liposculpture.

Liposculpture targets specific areas of your body to remove fat with in an in-office procedure using local anesthesia.   Excess fat, typically in the abdomen, love handles, inner/outer thighs and buttocks, is removed after a lidocaine fluid prepares the area so that patients mostly feel pressure with minimal discomfort.  Using a technique that is less painful and invasive than traditional liposuction, fat is carefully extracted using a vibration-assisted 3mm cannula inserted just under the skin through small, undetectable incisions.

Because Liposculpture refines the appearance rather than create a drastic change, there is minimal resulting weight loss.  This is not for crash dieters. This is truly a very effective spot treatment for problem areas.

Fat Transfer for Double the Benefit

Your doctor can then take that excess fat and transfer it strategically in other areas of the body according to your desired outcome. Harvested fat is carefully prepared and optimized to be placed in the desired areas, typically where patients need volume enhancement like the buttocks (Brazilian Butt Lift), Breast (natural breast augmentation) or into hollows in the face, similar to dermal fillers.

Why Fat Transfer with Liposculpture?

Fat transfer via liposculpture is an attractive option for people who just don’t like the idea of foreign substances like fillers or implants in their body. In addition, this naturally harvested fat can be used to increase volume with a very gradual look. Patients who opt to enhance the breasts along with liposculpture, for instance, can expect an increase of up to a cup size—so this a more discreet way to address volume loss and symmetry changes due to aging, childbirth, or nursing.

Another bonus: using fat transferred from your Liposculpture for volume enhancement of your face has longer lasting results than traditional dermal fillers, often resulting in permanent improvement.  Patients are expected to retain 80-90% of the fat that is sculpted to the new area.

What’s Recovery Like?

Expect to wear compression garments 24-7 for the first week, except for when you shower, and tapering down to evenings only in the second week.  The compression garments feel like Spanx or a sports bra and you’ll be asked to restrict your physical activity according to which areas you’ve had treated.  This is a crucial step in getting an optimal result and it protects your investment— the garments both help stabilize the transplanted fat as it settles into its new location and it helps the skin to adjust to the underlying changes as well.  Facial Liposculpture thankfully doesn’t require any compression but it does require care.  For instance, if you had fat injected in your face to add volume, then post-recovery, it is suggested to avoid facials or other cosmetic treatments as those new fat cells establish blood flow.

How Much Does it Cost?

Of course, there is not a set price because it truly does vary based on each individual patient’s desired outcomes.  Because the fat removal, treatment and placement all happens in one appointment, a consultation is a must to both talk through ideal outcomes, and to get an idea of how much it will cost and exactly how to plan for post-procedure downtime and aftercare.
