Your Resolution Solution: New in CoolSculpting + 25% off

Need a little extra help with your New Year’s resolution to slim down by summer? Dermatology, Laser & Vein Specialists of the Carolinas can help: they’re hosting a CoolSculpting event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 26 where you can learn all about CoolSculpting, including the new CoolAdvantage applicator that cuts treatment times almost in half — from an hour to 35 minutes — and also makes the fat-freezing procedure more comfortable.

Dr. Gilly Munavalli & Dr. Payman Kosari at DLVSC told us the FDA has recently approved CoolSculpting for use on bra fat, back fat and the area under your buttocks (a.k.a. the “banana roll”). Here’s what else they told us about the procedure:

CoolSculpting basics

CoolSculpting involves freezing the fat cells on a certain part of your body, which will cause the cells to eventually die and be shed naturally.

It’s an FDA-approved treatment that will give patients a 20 to 30-percent fat reduction in the treated area after just one treatment. Dr. Kosari said most people who get it in the abdominal area can expect to lose a pants size or two.

The procedure takes about an hour (or less with the new applicator) and patients usually start to see results within weeks, with full results in three months. Patients generally describe the procedure as a vacuuming sensation followed by cold, tingling feeling that eventually fades to numbness, and most patients agree the new handpiece makes the experience much more comfortable.

While you’re being treated, you can kick back and watch television, read a book or even take a nap.

Candidates for CoolSculpting

It’s a great option for people hoping to get rid of small pockets of fat on the abdomen, thighs or arms that exercise just won’t touch. The FDA has also approved CoolSculpting for use on the submental area or double chin.

“CoolSculpting is not intended for major weight loss, but rather for those who are hoping to ‘fine-tune’ and eliminate stubborn, exercise-resistant fat” said Dr. Munavalli. “We were the first to bring CoolSculpting to the Carolinas in 2010 and have been actively involved in clinical research with this device. We recommend that anyone interested in CoolSculpting come to this free event and take advantage of a complimentary consultation. If you aren’t a candidate for CoolSculpting, we’ll discuss the other options we have at DLVSC that might better address your needs. We firmly believe in tailoring the treatment to the patient, not the other way around.”
