When I think of July Fourth, it conjures some of my best summer memories. Whether spent with family down on Amelia Island, among friends on Lake Murray or Lake Norman, or grilling out in my backyard at home, it’s one of my favorite holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas get all of the glory, but I’m a sucker for the 4th. Send fireworks soaring over a clear Carolina night sky and you’ll find a goose bump or two. Play the National Anthem and I’ll probably shed a tear. I love America and I love the Fourth of July.
Although the Fourth is awesome in and of itself, an over-the-top awesome Fourth of July requires a little time, planning, and a lot of water. We are here to help. Although pickin’s are admittedly slim this late in the game, there is still hope. Check out some of the best last-minute vacation rentals with availability for Independence Day across the Carolinas’ most beautiful lakeside shorelines. From Norman to Wylie, we have you covered for whatever kind of Fourth you’re aiming for, from a refreshing, relaxing holiday weekend living #LakeLife to a big ol’ ‘Merica-loving extravaganza!
Rustic Relaxation – Log Cabin on Lake Norman
Get back to nature at this luxurious, custom-built log home on Lake Norman. Just 45 minutes from Charlotte, you’ll feel far away from the hustle and bustle of life off of the lake while you’re lulled into deep relaxation by the water lapping at the shore. Unwind on the large patio while your burgers and dogs cook on the grill- both charcoal and gas are provided along with an outdoor fireplace perfect for s’mores!
Views to Die For – Luxury Home on Lake Norman
Stretch your legs in this 5000 sq foot luxury home on Lake Norman near the Peninsula Club. You and your guests can lounge in the infinity pool, loosen up in the hot tub, tan on the boat dock, or cut your pool shark teeth on the pool table. Although this property is not fit for large parties, these would be great accommodations for a very adult, no-Jello-O-shots-allowed weekend on LKN.
Holiday with your Hunnie – Suite on Lake Norman
Are you and your significant other feeling like two ships passing in the night lately? Work, school, kids, cooking, cleaning, breathing, life… ah, it can all get in the way of quality time! Take advantage of an extra day off and spend it together watching the sunset over the causeway down the road or dipping your fishing pole into the deep main channel right off of the dock during your stay. Your suite comes with a furnished kitchenette that includes a microwave, refrigerator, and convection oven with a charcoal grill outside. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available.
Multi-Family/Ultra-Fun – Unique Home on Lake Hickory
Owned jointly by two families that are close friends (or “FRamily” as they call it), this property screams summer fun. There is a huge kitchen and dining area for optimal togetherness after a fun day on the water. Situated on a hill above the lake, there is also ample outdoor living space from a fireplace to fire pit and bocce to horseshoes, this place has you covered! With a huge glass garage door that opens to the screen porch to make the entire downstairs open-air living, you can really bring the outdoors in. There are also mountain bike trails and a marina for boat rentals nearby.
Riverfront Respite – Log Home on the Broad River
Near Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, this riverfront getaway is perfect for a smaller group or a couple looking to take in some mountain air this holiday weekend. You can actually see Hickory Nut Falls and “the chimney rock” while sipping your morning coffee from the living room. With a Jacuzzi tub and private balcony off of the master bedroom, I dare you to leave your stay not feeling rested and serene.
Cozy Cabins – Retreats on Lake Lure
All of the Arbor Cabins boast king-size beds, full kitchens, fluffy robes, gas log fireplaces, and private decks with hot tubs. Although pint-sized, these cabins are perfect for a BFF duo or couple. The property owner stocks each cabin with popcorn, farm-fresh eggs, homemade bread, and local coffee too. Each reservation also comes with passes to a local winery!
Family Escape – River Hills Condo on Lake Wylie
Located in the River Hills community of Lake Wylie, this condo rental offers options for watersports activities including kayak, paddle boat, paddle board, and fishing equipment rentals just a short walk from the front door. Outfitted with a charcoal grill, board games, a poker table, and a deck with lake views, the only thing this property is lacking is linens- don’t forget to pack your own!
Serenity in SC – Traditional Home on Lake Murray
I have many fond memories of our family lake house on Lake Murray, just outside of Colombia, SC. When we weren’t relaxing on the dock, my brothers and I were swimming across the cove to our friend’s house or exploring one of the islands on this sparkly clean, man-made lake. This place is perfect for families and close to the Riverbanks Zoo for a different and- dare I say- educational outing with your crew. Rental also grants you access to the community pool, walking trails, and tennis courts.
Whether you’re spending the Fourth of July weekend with family, friends, or your special someone, hug the ones you love a little tighter for our men and women serving our country far from home and remember the reasons we’re able to celebrate our nation’s independence together.
