Fall 2011 Nail Colors and Trends.

COLORS: Darks and Metallics

I often think the most indicative trait of an approaching Autumn is not the changing of the leaves, but the changing of the nail polish. With the first breath of Fall, we rub off those neons, slap a coat of black polish on our nails and dart to the nearest Starbucks to wrap them around a Pumpkin Spice Latte as soon as they are dry.

But this year, explore the rest of the dark side. Navy, charcoal grey, burgundy, chocolate and dark greens, purples, browns and reds are some fabulous (and more transitional) Fall nail color alternatives to black.  Essie always offers an affordable selection of colors spot on with the trends and is available in Target and many drug stores.

Prefer something with a little more glimmer? You’re in luck! Metallic nails are still a HUGE trend- and I would be doing you a disservice to mention metallic nails without strongly suggesting these gorgeous shades by the ever-popular, excellently made Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour collection.

TEXTURES: Glitter and Matte

If a simple metallic sheen isn’t enough bling for your digits, kick up the glitz by adding one of  these fabulous glitter lacquers by Deborah Lippmann to any of your favorite polish colors (light or dark), or just wear them alone. The color combinations are endless!

Not a fan of shimmer or glitter? Head in the complete opposite direction to try another extremely popular nail trend, matte polish.  The best thing about this trend is that by purchasing one new product, you can make all of your existing colors look different. Just apply the matte top coat and prepare to be amazed by the new look of your polishes.

You can play around with mixing glossy and matte polishes, too:
