Nine reasons to schedule your colonoscopy with Tryon

Many people avoid having a colonoscopy because they think it will be inconvenient and unpleasant, but it doesn’t have to be. While there’s not much we can do about the “prep” (or bowel cleansing agent), Tryon’s gastroenterology team has designed every other aspect of the Tryon Endoscopy Center to be as easy and efficient as possible for patients and families.

1. We open at 6:00 a.m.

When your stomach is empty and you can’t have breakfast, getting your colonoscopy started (and done) earlier is better.

2. Less waiting and more time for screening

Your experience at Tryon Endoscopy Center should take, on average, less than two hours. Our team works efficiently so that we can spend more time during your actual procedure. (Remember, you’re asleep during the procedure!) Our gastroenterologists take longer than most to ensure your exam is thorough and every curve is thoroughly checked for polyps that could be cancerous.

3. Easy parking and access to the building

The Tryon Endoscopy Center is conveniently located inside Tryon Ballantyne with a parking lot adjacent to the building. There are no medical plazas, no gated lots (no parking tickets or validation needed) and no spaces reserved for anyone but patients.

4. No office visit needed beforehand

Most certainly, if you or your family member has a concern, please reach out to your primary care doctor or gastroenterology specialist for an appointment! However, if you are looking to get your routine procedure scheduled and crossed off your “to do” list, you don’t have to schedule an appointment if you don’t need one. (FYI, no pre-procedure visit cuts down on time spent in the doctor’s office.)

5. Super staff and excellent doctors

Patients consistently remark on the kindness and professionalism of Tryon staff and physicians, who are consistently voted Charlotte magazine Top Doctors. Every effort is made to educate patients about the procedure and answer their questions. The physicians on our gastroenterology team meet with patients and family members before and after the procedure to answer questions and discuss treatment, if necessary.

6. First-class facility and superior safety

The Tryon Endoscopy Center was built in 2019 to the specifications of our gastroenterology team, and is certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have safely performed over 10,000 procedures without any COVID-19 outbreaks. Our staff is 100% vaccinated.

7. Tryon physicians wouldn’t go anywhere else

Dr. Anne Barnard is an internal medicine physician who has had several colonoscopies. The Tryon Endoscopy Center is her preferred colonoscopy destination.

“I trusted my doctor 100%, and I have a lot of faith in the safety of the procedure,” Dr. Barnard says. “I would readily select ANY of our excellent Tryon Medical gastroenterologists to care for myself or a family member. That’s why I choose them exclusively for my patients.”

8. Our colonoscopies are less expensive

The Tryon Endoscopy Center is an ambulatory surgery center (or ASC), which does not require hospital admission. By their nature, ASCs provide a less stressful environment for simple procedures like colonoscopies and endoscopies. They are also less expensive (meaning lower facility fees), which means a big cost difference for patients, especially those who are paying out of pocket for their procedures. If you are concerned about cost, just ask us! We are fully transparent about our pricing.

9. Colonoscopies are superior to Cologuard®.

Cologuard recently gained popularity during the pandemic since it can be done at home and is less invasive than a colonoscopy. While there are certainly some benefits to Cologuard, a colonoscopy is better at detecting precancerous polyps. Colonoscopies are the gold standard for preventing colon cancer, the third most common cause of cancer deaths among men and women combined.

Remember that the age recommendation for starting screening colonoscopies has decreased to 45. Start the referral process to schedule your procedure.
