Shoe porn from Fashionista.com

A decent round-up of the shoes seen at the Spring Fashion Week shows is here from Fashionista.com.  We have to admit, we are not as excited by this as we could be.  There were only 2-3 shoes in this post that we thought a Must have.  And maybe that’s a good thing.

Indian quilts on One King’s Lane today.

Ever see a photo in a decorating mag where the vintage quilt or suzani-like fabric is draped over a sofa, dining table, bed and wonder, where do they buy these things?  Or more accurately, where can I buy something like this?  We scoop to please my friends.  Check out  One Kings Lane for deals and steal on stuff for your home.  Expensive stuff, the kind you see in the mags, at really solid discounts.  Like the dozens and dozens of one of a kind Indian quilts like these on sale today.  $179.  At 60″x 90″ good as a twin bed top-quilt, table cloth overlay or, in my case, to drape over the sofa as a pet-protective device.  Very cool.

Quick & Easy Fall Update: Sheer Black, Black Lace and Polka Dot Pantyhose.

The quickest way to update your look this fall?  Forgo the bare legs and wear a pair of sheer black pantyhose….plain, dotted, patterned or lace.  The Lovely Duchess of Cambridge (aka Kate Middleton) jumped this trend early, last winter, as we posted here.

For the most part, pantyhose are a department store buy.  You’ll find your basic Hanes sheer blacks at Belk, Dillards, Macys.  For the more fashionable looks, you can hit Belk South Park, Nordy’s or Neimans.

Our best find for the widest selection that won’t break the bank?  Urban Outfitters. Some are even on sale right now.  You can go with a demure polka-dot right on through a House Of Harlow Faux garter style.  Most for $12 to $14 per pair.  Pics below. (more…)

New Heel Styles you need to know about for A/W 2011

Thank you Net-A-Porter for this quick and easy primer on the new shoes.  More precisely, the new heels.  Just the handy kind of reference tool we love.

George, Gina, & Lucy.

Who, who and who?  You can only find this hot handbag brand at Our Place on Fairview Rd.  I bought myself one of these new for fall, and have been showered with compliments on it ever since.   Ranging from my 13 y-o son (!) to former Observer Style Editor Rachel Sutherland.  Super functional, not crazy expensive.  And here’s the way it works at Our Place – Mechelle is always out front on a trend.  By this time next year, you’ll be seeing bags like these on every-girl.  Get yours now and help me lead the pack.

Shopper’s Delight: Google Catalogs for iPad

Google introduces a free iPad app so you can get your fave (some, not all of course) catalogs on your iPad.  Saving paper  and making your shopping habit even more accessible and intrusive in your daily life.  Which, of course, is as it should be.

Most of the high end stores are in, along with some of the fun mid-priced shops like Anthropologie and Free People, Boden, Crate & Barrel, West Elm and more.  With Google Catalogs, you can subscribe to these paperless versions of catalogs — and be notified as soon as new issues are available.  And they’ll be adding more catalogs as they go along.

Such a nice way to save trees, lighten up the recycling bin and armchair shop all at the same time.  And yet another reason to buy the iPad.

Our new blogger found some cute tops at Marshall’s and TJMaxx.

We have a new blogger on staff at scoopcharlotte.com (welcome Mallory!) and her mission is to shop the discounters (big box, resale, consignment, ebay, even D-I-Y ) for fashion that really won’t break the bank. You may have seen her write up on recent finds at Target - bracelets and culottes.

This weekend, Mallory shopped for tops: (more…)

Do you know Culottes?

Whether in a vintage shop or on current shelves at your local shop, culottes are cool again. One of the Houdinis of fashion, these skirt/short hybrids are nothing but cute.

At first glance culottes appear to be a skirt but upon closer inspection they are actually shorts.  I love these because they have a little bit more volume and are dressier than a typical short. They are often in flowy fabrics such as challis or a light weight chiffon and in fun prints. (more…)
