Have you guys ever heard of white sapphires? I totally had not. At least not until I took a trip to Guliani’s Fine Jewelry in Blakeney.

I have to admit, I’m more of  watch girl than a gem girl. I mean, if you want to talk Cartier? We can totally have that conversation right now. Tank, Santos, Roadster? Hell to the yeah, I’m all about some Cartier. And one of defining characteristics about Cartier? The little sapphire that’s on the knob (sapphires are often used in jewelry that takes a lot of hard knocks, as they are 2nd in hardness only to diamonds).

Since I’m the resident watch-snob and no-nothing about white sapphires, the fine folks at Guliani’s brought me up to speed. Here’s the skinny:

First of all, did you know that it’s a natural inclusion in a sapphire’s chemical make-up that determines its color?   So a white or colorless sapphire means that it’s a sapphire with few or no inclusions.  After diamonds, colorless sapphires and colorless zircons are the best you can get in terms of clear sparkly stones.  White sapphires are an affordable alternative to diamonds, particularly the smaller stones.  Ok, it’s true – nothing will match a diamond for brilliance, refraction and hardness.  OR price.  Which is why we’re here.

You may have read my post about meeting Limited CEO Linda Heasley in this recent bit about their new plus size online boutique.  Maybe you read a few weeks ago that we were giving away gift cards to the new Northlake Mall Limited store.  In case you hadn’t guessed yet, I am impressed with the company’s mission to re-vamp and re-energize to reach today’s shoppers.  They’ve updated their store decor and format – which you can see at the Northlake Limited – and are doing extensive research to better understand the young, professional women who are their core customer.  And I like that they are taking some risks to play harder in this arena.  Their eloquii full figured store is certainly one.

Their jewelry collaboration with high end designer Ranjana Khan is another.  Wife of red-carpet guru Naeem Khan, Ranjana Khan’s “regular” pieces are currently sold at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus with prices ranging from $300 to $600.

The Limited’s Ranjana Khan collab collection is priced from $69 to $120.  It is ONLINE ONLY and includes fifteen pieces, including beautiful drop earrings, elegant chokers, ornate cuffs and bib necklaces. I’m in love with pendants. No, really I am. I have been known to DIY myself some pendants with leather straps and foreign coins (you the funky kind with holes in the center?).  That’s how much I love them. However, DIY,  leather straps and old coins is so not what this post is about.
