Shopped Calypso for Target Yesterday

Stopped by the Tar-jay at Metropolitan around 1 pm yesterday and the Calypso section was already crowded.  I don’t think all pieces were out yet, maybe 10 styles?  The collection is online, including petite and plus size versions of several styles.  I thought the quality was ok – like all target collabs, the designs lose a lot in the translation to much lower price points.  I guess there is a reason to charge $225 for a beach-y tunic vs. $29.99.  Pics to compare a current C St B tunic to a Target version are below. J Crew’s Designer Collabs

LemLem top at JCrewYou may have already checked out J.Crew’s In Good Company page for women on their website.

Thirty Five brands on sale online at J.Crew.  Some are exclusive to J.Crew collaborative efforts, like a line of Lulu Frost jewelry, a couple of Timex watches, Cosabella for J.Crew, Selima Optique for J. Crew.  Even, oddly, Essie nail polish for J. Crew.  Most are just brands that fit in well with the Crew’s voice – higher end than they carry under the J. Crew label – like Barbour, Macintosh, MiH jeans, Quoddy, RayBan, LemLem, Globetrotter luggage, Cutler and Gross.

If you’re looking for classic, preppy brands you can’t always find easily, this would be a good place to look. And the list is even longer for men, here. Oh yeah, and kids too, just click around on the site and you’ll find it.

Target and Calypso St. Barth

Whether you like the Target collaborations or whether you think they are a crass commercial assault on good design, you gotta admit it’s fun to see what’s next and how it plays.
The newest news is their collab with beloved designer Calypso St. Barth, due in stores May 1 thru June 11.  This will be a big collection, like the one Target did with Liberty of London.
A “lifestyle” collection with women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, baby clothing, home stuff.  Mostly priced under $60 and all (hopefully) with Calypso’s beachy, casual vibe.  Racked.com posted a lengthy review of the preview, here, and they like what they saw.  If you aren’t familiar with Calypso, check it out here online .

The Feast.com, a blog on Chicago to-do, posted this list of items we can expect: (more…)
