April Family Fun for “South” South Charlotte

Charlotte provides so many fun learning experiences for your little ones, and families in the Queen City flock to places like Lazy 5 Ranch, Discovery Place, ImaginOn, and the Carolinas Aviation Museum. But what if you wanted to venture a just little further south? Here are the perfect pairings to get your family excited about living and learning in South Charlotte this spring!

Bike Trails
Take your kiddos on The Best Bike Ride Ever! Enjoy spring in the South with a family bike ride on these trails: Anne Springs Close Greenway is celebrating Love the Greenway Month in April. A little closer to home, Ballantyne District Park offers 91 acres and 3.5 miles of maintained bike trails off of Bryant Farms Road.

Before They Leave the Nest that Mama Built
Looking to capture these special memories before your little ones have grown and flown the nest? Our friends at Little Nest Portraits have just opened in the new Waverly community in South Charlotte. Check them out at their Grand Opening celebration on April 22nd from 12:00 – 3:00 and enjoy refreshments, kid friendly activities, giveaways, and a fun photo booth!

A South Carolina Moon
Papa might not be able to get the moon for your little ones, but you can take them to the Settlemyre Planetarium in Rock Hill, SC for Big Bird’s Adventure: One World, One Sky! Children ages 3-6 can learn about the moon and constellations from Big Bird, Elmo and a friend from China. Older children can enjoy Carolina Skies, where the visible planets and moon are positioned during the week in a live update, then discover how to find constellations during the Seasonal Stargazing presentation. Both shows run every Saturday though May.

Every Day is Earth Day
Head to Matthews on April 22 10am – 2pm and help The Lorax celebrate Earth Day! Start behind the Matthews Community Center at the 4-Mile Creek Greenway trail head and wind along the Greenway to Squirrel Lake Park. Along the way, visit earth-friendly exhibitors and take advantage of recycling opportunities, educational booths, shopping, and a few freebies. There will be music, food options, and cool scavenger hunts.
