How many lunches or “coffees” have you gone to with girlfriends lately where the discussion is about aging and what to do about it? Once everyone hits the big 4-0, this seems to be the case.  To paraphrase a classic Saturday Night Live character, Linda Richman and her famous Coffee Talk skit, “Let me give you a topic… Botox, Restalyne, Dysport, Radiesse? Discuss!” Back in the 90s this wasn’t hot topic, but it certainly is now.  I’m giving you the topic so hurry grab your skinny vanilla latte and let’s discuss!

To Botox or not to Botox, that is the question.  Of course, we recommend you do your homework and go with a trusted source with good referrals when doing any procedure.

Our client, Elizabeth Rostan MD at Charlotte Skin and Laser is the cosmetic dermatologist of choice for many Charlotte women, including a few writers on this blog.   First of all,  we love the fact that Dr. Rostan administers and treats all her patients herself. You will not be passed on to someone certified to do a procedure. If BOTOX is your injectable of choice, Dr. Rostan will inject it herself which is key.

Dr. Rostan is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.  She believes that the goal of every rejuvenation program should be to create natural results that make you look younger, healthier, and not overdone. Dr. Rostan is committed to keeping Charlotteans  beautiful and healthy  ~ all while wearing her signature stilettos. (You know we can’t resist a great pair of shoes and apparently either can she.)
In case you’ve been on the fence about getting Botox, we’ve put together the scoop exclusive coupon offer below along with our “Girlfriends’ Guide” on today’s most popular injectable.  Please note, this is our scoopcharlotte version of a Q & A – girlfriend to girlfriend.    For Dr. Rostan’s professional and official information on BOTOX, please link to the FAQ here.

COFFEE TALK.    Today’s topic is BOTOX.

Will I get Botulism if I choose BOTOX?

Most likely NOT, since you get this dreaded form of food poisoning when eating something containing a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium. Sorry to get all scientific on you, but just reporting the facts. As with all prescription medicines, there  can be side effects, so please discuss them with your doctor first.

I have a huge gala to attend this weekend. How quickly do results appear and how long does it last?

Within days, you may see improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary of course. Since redness and slight bruising may occur – particularly for crow’s feet – so it’s suggested to have a treatment at least 2 weeks or even a month before a big event.

I’m afraid I might look like one of those celebrities with botched BOTOX. What are the chances of that happening?

Choosing the right doctor obviously is most important, and anything done in moderation should be fine. The people we see that look disfigured have had excessive work done. There are safer things to become addicted to ~ like those skinny vanilla lattes.

My girlfriend is having a BOTOX and wine tasting party at her home. The price is fabulous and so is the wine!  Really not a question, but would I be stupid not to take advantage of this offer?

Actually, we hate to be the party pooper,  but stay home and make a proper appointment to have your procedure. It’s advised not to consume alcohol prior to treatment since it increases your chances of bruising. A sterile environment and a trusted physician is our reco. But heck, why not go to the party and just drink the wine?

What areas should be BOTOXed? Is that a new verb?

Most common is the “number 11″ frown between the brows, the crow’s feet next to eyes, the frown lines above your brows and other areas above the nose. Anything “below the nose” probably needs filler instead, like those laugh lines. That’s a topic for another time. Oh, and yes, I think turning nouns into verbs is quite trendy.

Can I put makeup on, carpool and get to my Flywheel class afterwards?

I hate to inform you that you must avoid strenuous exercise for at least 2-4 hours. Aww, I know you’re bummed. You now have a valid excuse to skip the workout. You also may not lay down for 4 hours. For those that need another excuse not to “you know” with the generous person who possibly paid for this procedure, you now have one. You’re welcome. However, feel free to put some makeup on and get back to joining your girls for a latte to discuss your wrinkle free face.  You’ll  be just fine to pick up the chicklets from school on time too.

Will it hurt?

The answer is for some a little and for most, no.   Very tiny needles are used and a good doctor’s injections typically do not hurt much if at all. Some doctors may numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to procedure. Trust me, I’m sure you’ve done plenty of other things that have been far more painful.  Like shopping for Missoni at Target or waking up after drinking an entire bottle of wine. Just saying.

See?  Smoothing out those wrinkles is simple, and your face will be as smooth as “but~tah”.  Make an appointment at Charlotte Skin & Laser today, print & clip the coupon below ( or show it on your phone) and receive BOTOX at $9 a unit instead of $12 a unit.

And now….just as Linda Richman would say, “Talk amongst yourselves.”
