It was all Blush Colors and Mermaids at the Golden Globes.

| January 16, 2012

Elle MacPherson

The two most defining trends of the Golden Globes last night were:  Blush shades ruled the Red Carpet.  The fairest peach, the faintest pinks, creamy pale taupes and lilac were seen on almost every other celebrity beauty.  Blondes, brunettes, and redheads alike.  With makeup and skin in matching pale shades or in complementary sun-kissed golds.  It worked spectacularly well on many stars; it was just overdone.

And the other – the mermaid dress.  Fish tails were everywhere sashaying and swishing down the Red Carpet.   I don’t like this style enough to see more than one or two versions per event – and I really got way more SPLASH than I wanted last night.  Plus, it is such an overdone bridal style, I’m sick of it before I even tune in.

Pics Here.  The most impressive and lovely choices last night in my book?  Claire Danes in J.Mendel hands down.  Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron and Kate Beckinsale for the best versions of the Blushing Shades Over Trending Trend.  Diane Argon in Giles Deacon’s red laser cut lace, particularly the neckline.  Rooney Mara, Viola Davis and Jodie Foster for the most purely pretty versions of themselves.  Reese Witherspoon and Elle MacPherson for their hair if not their décolletage.  And Angelina Jolie for Brad Pitt. (as always, click on the pic to see it full size).

I so agree! I could barely stand seeing another mermaid style dress. Who sent out that memo? My favorites — Angelina + Claire. Uber fabulous!

    Susu,

I can not agree with you more! You took the words right out of my mouth! I loved being on the Charlotte Style Panel with you during the Golden Globes. Hope to see you soon!

Thanks Franklin! I think you are by far the most knowledgeable and prolific TWEETER we have ever had on the #cltstylepanel! It is just great to be viewing with you. PS What did you think of Angelina Jolie’s dress? Atelier Versace? I liked it but apparently lots did not. Same with Zoey D’s Prada, worked for me but she got slammed by the fashion witches.

You are too sweet! I had so much fun! Angelina’s was alright. She could have worn better. For me, it was too simple. Although the fabric looked amazing, the red accent up the neckline was interesting but nothing too special. Zooey D’s Prada was so pretty! I loved the soft colorblocking and the embellishments were great! That silhouette was great on her. It was so ‘her.’

Angelina’s Atelier Versace dress = elegance and grandeur for me! Loved!
