The Stylist Says:

February 23, 2010

Other than the endless beauty opportunities, it’s a slow week for sales.  So we thought we introduce you to one of Charlotte’s more successful stylists, who’s offered to clue us in on her best finds every month or so.

Holly Ham hails from southern California but has lived and worked in Charlotte since 1993.  Holly dresses some of Charlotte’s most fashionable women, and gets the style scoop straight from the owners & buyers of this town’s best boutiques and stores.  Known for her fashion sense and savvy (even before Rachel Zoe turned every power-shopper into a stylist), Holly has been working her magic for loyal clients for over 7 years.  She has an impeccable eye and an amazing sense of what works.  Holly also has the gift of picking out “that one thing you need to buy this season to update and refresh your look.  So, without further ado, here we have a few of  Holly’s MUST HAVES for Spring 2010:

I.  A NEUTRAL WEDGE SANDAL.

Holly: This really does go with everything, because it almost disappears on the leg.  I love, love the higher priced Chloe (at Coplons and Capitol), but I was just thrilled to find a more affordable version by Michael Kors at STEP and at Nordstrom.  I got the Kors for myself.  You will wear them until they fall off of your feet.

II. A J.BRAND LEGGING JEAN.

Holly: I live in these and I try to sell them to each of my clients. They are comfortable, stretchy, skinny, flattering. If you are thin, you can wear them like any jean. If you are curvy, they are perfect with a jacket, untucked shirt, tunic, cardigan. I get my jeans at SLOAN but JBrand is at several stores in Charlotte. This spring - in white, black and blue from $138 to $165.

III. A LINEN/COTTON CARGO.

Holly: I hated to do two pants in my first picks for scoop, but these are such a must have for spring.  They hit all the right notes - the utility trend, the neutral color, the light weight.  And they can be super comfortable and flattering if you go with my picks.  A cargo will add bulk if the fabric’s too heavy and some styles can look a bit sloppy.  But the Marrakech version at Sloan, in an olive banded capri, and the Joie in khaki linen from Neimans are both soft, light and chic. These cargo’s will give a rough bit of edge to the feminine tops we’ll see this spring.

IV. The ANDRES LACE SLIP from E.Martini.

andres-slips1Holly:  This slip is a splurge at $154, especially when you think you’ll only wear it underneath.  But that’s just it, these silk slips are so gorgeous, you need to let them show a bit, wear it instead of a blouse or tank under your cardigan or jacket.  And a slip like this will transform one of your old dresses.  Just go see Eileen at E.Martini and let her show you the glorious colors and treat yourself this spring.  A piece like this lasts for years, and these slips look exactly like a french designer brand that is priced 5-6 times as much. (scoop says:  hmmmm, now THAT IS a splurge.)

V.  DIOR BEAUTY’s  5 COLOR EYE SHADOW PALETTE

DIOR BEAUTYThis eye shadow palette is so practical and pretty, I think we all need a new one for spring. It’s won awards like the InStyle Best of Beauty last year, and the colors are fresh and new. I love the Dior eye shadows - they have a soft, smooth finish that lasts for hours. This comes in several different colors, mattes, iridescents & combos. Go see Heather at the Dior Beauty counter at Neiman Marcus and she’ll help you pick your new colors out. $58 for the 5 color palette. (scoop says: don’t forget to schedule your beauty makeover and get your gift with purchase while you are there!!).
