I don’t know a single person that doesn’t remark “the house looks so bare” after all of the Christmas decorations come down… it doesn’t matter how gorgeous it was before you put them up. That corner by the fireplace that glowed warm and cozy for the past two months is now cold and empty. Don’t let the winter blues take over your home… it doesn’t take much to get that loving feeling back. BD Jeffries at Morrison in Southpark has anything and everything you need to get your home looking like new again, and we’ve hand picked 10 of our favorite home accessories to do the job. And the good news is, they’re all under $250!
Shop BD Jeffries online, or at Morrison in Southpark; 720 Governor Morrison St.
This is a huge fashion trend from the runways and in the magazines, and yet it is almost nowhere to be found. A few spotted online at Barneys.com and Net-a-porter.com. We’ve not seen a single one in the shops around town, not even at our more “fashion forward” spots.
I, for one, really like this look and am going to buy something PEPLUM’d for spring. The best online spot to buy this look for not much moola seems to ASOS.com.
As you’ll see from the photo’s below – you can have your skirt or pants peplum’d or you can have your top peplum’d. We think the key to picking the best look for you will depend on how wide your hips are and how small your waist / low ribcage is. If you have a small waist, you can go with the Peplum skirt and a very sleek bottom. If you have small hips, you can have your flare start much higher, or you can pull off a dramatic and wide peplum. If you are curvy, a small flounce at the right spot may just work on you, but you’ll need to try it on and with a rear view mirror! If you have a boyish, straight figure, you can easily wear either, and if you are thick through the middle, this is going to be a trend to pass on.
Pics below. Please comment if you are a shop owner and have some coming in, or if you’ve seen them somewhere. Besides your mom’s scrapbook from the ’80s.

Just as no outfit is complete without jewelry, no room is complete without beautiful lighting. And just like a gorgeous statement necklace works wonders for a basic blouse, one way to make a big impact in your home is to find unique lighting that compliments its surroundings. Add a touch of sparkle in an otherwise simple setting to create instant glamour. Or bring in natural elements to emphasize a more casual, lived in room. It’s easy to manipulate the overall feel of a room with your selection of lighting. And speaking of compliments, one line of lighting that is sure to initiate quite a few is Ro Sham Beaux.
Gorgeous chandeliers made from sustainable materials such as recycled glass, gemstones, and natural beading are available in over 200 colors. You can take a look at this line, in person, at Isabella. And since they carry the line, anything from the Ro Sham Beaux collection can be special ordered through Isabella. Because even if you don’t see what you’re looking for at Isabella or in the Ro Sham Beaux catalogue, the company offers full custom capabilities, and finishes from bronze, rust, aged pewter, silver and gold leaf.
The “RESORT” fashion season hits the stores in January. So that the wealthy among us, who are island hopping to escape winter’s chill, will have the latest trends in which to enjoy tropical and fruity cocktails.
For most of us regular folks, the key words here are The Latest Trends. That you can buy in store right now. Even as we speak. So you can shop some of the new styles you are seeing in the mags. That you can buy if you are so sick of black, brown, and grey you could just ….you know….spit. So you can wear them under a cardi or top on our balmier 60 degree days, before we get slapped in the face with another round of in the low 30s.
The trends are all here in the resort collections at the stores right now. Graphics, brights, blues, corals, tribal, colorblocks, maxi’s, brights, neons. Here’s a slideshow of what we found in our local boutiques this week.

During your appointment, you get to see & try on a designer’s latest looks and collection, which you may see in the press but not normally on our Charlotte showroom floors.
Nitsa’s is one of Charlotte’s premiere bridal and formal gown salons – an elegant new space on Fairview Road in the Allen Tate building (so, right next to Phillips Place). They are hosting shows from some very popular upscale designers this month and next. If you just got engaged, congrats! and call now for your appointment to one or more of these events. 704.940.1999.
You do need an appointment to go, and you should prepare a bit for your visit to any salon to try on gowns. Here’s a short post on our tips on bridal gown appointment prep, just fyi.

But Oh Em Gee, what gorgeous gowns they are, if you are lucky enough to have this in your budget. Here’s what’s coming our way for the next several weeks. (Pics from each designer below).

Still feeling the winter blues with cold and rainy weather?
Kiss those blues goodbye, look on the bright side, and head on over to Divine Consign in south Charlotte in the Ballantyne/Blakeney area.
All fall/winter merchandise is gone, spring fashions have been unveiled, and new spring keeps coming in every day. This consignment shop, with its boutique feel, looks fresh and alive with a vibrant color palette. Color is key on the runways this spring, and you are sure to find something here to brighten your wardrobe and your day.
On our recent visit, we were in awe of the great designer shoe selection perfect for spring. Tory Burch, Gucci, Prada and DVF were a few of our favs. Sandals, wedges, espadrilles and heels are timeless staples in a spring/summer wardrobe. However, you better put that SPRING in your STEP and get there fast since these hot items will practically be walking out the door by themselves. (click the pic for larger image)
If you are heading somewhere sunny for spring break, Divine Consign will help you select your “resort” ensemble from sunnies by Tom Ford to Kate Spade sandals. Perhaps you’ll choose a lightweight dress or nautical blazer and skirt. Don’t forget the variety of designer arm candy too! Juicy Couture bangles and a large Coach tote to pack your gossip magazines and sunscreen are a must.
One area of the store is stocked with brand new-with-tags spring merchandise that is marked 50% off retail or or more. Some of these brands can be found at department stores like Nordstrom or at the boutiques.
Divine Consign is in The Fountains at 8145 Ardrey Kell Rd.

Next SATURDAY 2/4 join us to celebrate the opening of a storefront Style Lounge for the QC’s much loved traveling trunk show, FROCK SHOP. We heart this concept and its creator Caroline Cook-Frers SOOO much that we’re sponsoring her events this year.
Frock Shop is a curated collection of women’s fashion including re-sale, resurrected vintage, name~brand & designer goods. The selection changes with owner Caroline Cook-Frers finds and well-placed fashion whims. The prices are A-MAY-ZING, and fans and followers have been snapping up designer deals at Frock Shop’s traveling trunk shows over the past couple of years. Now, with the opening of the new Style Lounge in the MONA building at 1200 Central Ave in Plaza Midwood, you can swing by anytime to shop for treasure.
For sure, FROCK SHOP is a new & different kind of store. There’s the rotating art show from MONA (Museum of Neighborhood Art). There’s the wine bar and the chocolate. There’s the rooftop deck for summer sipping. And then there’s its House Label of re-designed finds, REVIVAL. Caroline is a master at taking a vintage piece – just a tad short of fab – and restyling it to be completely au courant. And still, she prices it to sell. Skip down to the flyer below to see how you can buy the adorable outfit here, head to toe, for $114 at Frock Shop.
